I’m generally not one for rants and extensive complaints. For one, life it pretty awesome. I honestly feel lucky to have an opportunity to see the world, be creative, and generally make my dreams come true. Secondly, I’m a big believer in ‘what you put out there comes back to you’, so I don’t want to be putting negativity out into the world because it just multiplies and comes back to you.
But sometimes life is hard, terrible things happen to lovely people, and life isn’t always fair. Horrible things happen, that’s the truth of it. And its hard not to be negative or complain. All of your feelings crash into you and all you can do is live it; grieve, fear, cry, run, throw things, scream, sleep all day, talk it out, whatever. Be in that horrible moment, so that you can then grow and move forward.
Getting back into the positive mindset takes time. You’ll have great days, horrible days, and numb days. Some things that might help you to focus on feeling more positive:
Express gratitude. This can be hard initially, but as you move on from your negative state it becomes easier to be thankful for the things you do have, or the people that have stuck by you and supported you. Write a list of things that you are grateful for right now.
Positive affirmations. Coming up with some key phrases and putting them into a sentence can help you overcome a bad situation. Repeating it to yourself can help reaffirm positivity, and push away negativity as it tries to creek back in. The more you say it to yourself the more you believe it.
Want list. There might be some things that you have always wanted in your life, or due to recent events you now have some new things you want. When you write this list you can think about how you will feel when you have these things in your life and how much better things will be. Making this list happen can help pull you away from the negative mindset.
