Emma Watson launches UN Women’s He For She gender equality campaign

I spotted Emma Watson in this picture not long ago protesting against comments made by Turkey’s vice prime minister that women should not laugh out loud.

“A woman will know what is haram and not haram,” he said. “She will not laugh out loud in public. She will not be inviting in her attitudes and will protect her chasteness.”

I remembered thinking how backward his comments were, and wondered how in 2014 people thought they could isolate and offend women like that. But the truth is that it happens all the time all over the world. I mean women STILL don’t receive equal pay to men in the same jobs…

This video is going viral and I recommend everyone watch it and get on board with true equality. Such an amazing and inspiring speech, I was really moved.

“I decided that I was a feminist. This seemed uncomplicated to me. But my recent research has shown me that feminism has become an unpopular word. Women are choosing not to identify as feminists. Apparently, [women’s expression is] seen as too strong, too aggressive, anti-men, unattractive.”

Now it’s time to unify our efforts. HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality that brings together one half of humanity in support of the other of humanity, for the entirety of humanity.
