Spring cleaning often leads to procrastination. One such distraction was finding a copy of Under the Tuscan Sun on DVD, I convince myself that putting it on while I clean can’t be a bad thing…
As you can imagine not much cleaning got done after that!
Diane Lane stars as Frances Mayes, a seemingly happy literature professor, literary reviewer, and author based in San Francisco. Her life takes an unexpected detour when her marriage abruptly ends sending her into a depression. Urged by her close friends to move on, she joins a bus tour of Tuscany where, on the spur of the moment, she buys a crumbling villa. She assembles a crew of oddballs and immigrants to repair the house; over the next year, as they work Frances rediscovers herself and finds a number of new interests.
I love this movie, not only is it full to the brim of beautiful scenery, it’s like escaping to Italy yourself. Clearly a chick flick, it encompasses new people and cultures, first loves, old hurts, and a bit of renovating. I would recommend getting together with some girlfriends or snuggling up on the couch on your own to enjoy this one.
