As you may know from my regular book review posts, I love reading! As a child I had always enjoyed being read to, my mum has an excellent collection of books and would read a chapter to us before bed.
But my true love of reading started the summer after I finished high school. I was preparing to start University and for the first time in a long time I didn’t have homework! I still had some money from my birthday left over and I found myself wondering through a bookstore. Browsing through the different areas and looking at book covers, reading blurbs I stumbled over Rihanna’s Ride by Kate Forsyth. It was a new release – to my broke 18 year old self this meant expensive – so after browsing the shelves I found an older book by the same author Dragonclaw I was intrigued by the cover and the blurb, not to mention the price being just right! I picked it up, paid my birthday money, and devoured it within a few days. Those books were where it all started for me. I remember starting Uni and reading the series during breaks and while on the bus.
I go through reading binges where I read book after book (usually more then one at a time) and I cant get enough! But I also go through dry spells where I don’t feel like reading at all. I suppose this is true for a lot of people.
During the last two years I’ve noticed a sharp decline in the amount of reading I do. I have been so busy with other things (fun crazy inspired and wonderful things!) I just haven’t made time for reading. It is a dry spell due to lack of time rather then interest! But I wanted to make a personal goal to allow more time for reading. It makes me feel really good to read more and its such an easy thing to do. So I have made a list of books I want to read and I will be reading one book a month (minimum).
To that end I’ve decided to start a Brick Road Creative Studio’s book club! We’re going to actually make time for reading, set it as a priority, rather than just waiting for the free time to appear. I will nominate a book to read one week before the new month starts, and at the end of the month (the last week) we will have an open forum discussion about the book. Even if you are reading another book I encourage you to tell us about it in our facebook group, we want to know about great books!
